Iron bioavailability in 8-24-month-old Thai children from a micronutrient-fortified quick-cooking rice containing ferric ammonium citrate or a mixture of ferrous sulphate and ferric sodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid.

A quick-cooking rice, produced from broken rice, is a convenient ingredient for complementary foods in Thailand. The rice is fortified with micronutrients including iron during the processing procedure, which can cause unacceptable sensory changes. A quick-cooking rice fortified with ferric ammonium citrate (FAC) or a mixture of ferrous sulphate (FeSO4 ) and ferric sodium ethylenediaminetetraac...

Iron absorption from rice meals cooked with fortified salt containing ferrous sulphate and ascorbic acid.

I . Iron absorption from rice-containing meals was measured by red cell utilization of radioactive Fe in sixty-six voluntcer multiparous Jndian women. 2. In all the studies salt added during the cooking process wiis used as the carrier for supplemental inorganic Fe and ascorbic acid. 3. Intrinsic Fe in the rice and supplementary inorganic Fe were absorbed to the same extent, with a wide range o...

Bioavailability of iron from ferric choline citrate and a ferric copper cobalt choline citrate complex for young pigs.

Two experiments were conducted to determine the bioavailability for young pigs of Fe from ferric choline citrate or from a commercial mixture of Fe, Cu and Co choline citrate salts. Relative biological value of Fe from either source with a standard of 100 for FeSO4 x 7H20 was about 140 by both hemoglobin regeneration and Fe retention methods.

Sodium pyrophosphate enhances iron bioavailability from bouillon cubes fortified with ferric pyrophosphate.

Fe fortification of centrally manufactured and frequently consumed condiments such as bouillon cubes could help prevent Fe deficiency in developing countries. However, Fe compounds that do not cause sensory changes in the fortified product, such as ferric pyrophosphate (FePP), exhibit low absorption in humans. Tetra sodium pyrophosphate (NaPP) can form soluble complexes with Fe, which could inc...

Recipe for ferric salts of ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid.

The supply of iron to plant roots was one of the main problems in water culture until about 1950. The main source of iron was originally ferrous sulfate, already used by Sachs (9). It had to be supplied almost daily to the nutrient solution as it precipitates gradually. Some improvement was obtained with organic compounds, mainly ferric citrate, introduced by Gile and Carrero (4). The favorable...
